Access timeline

As age-verification laws come into force across US states, the UK and the EU, adult sites respond — putting up an age-check wall, or withdrawing access with a notice. This is a dated record of when each site was first observed doing so in each place, measured directly by fetching the site from that location, not paraphrased from news. Because it is built by repeated measurement, every week adds history that can never be reconstructed later.

Wikipedia pageviews — public-attention proxy (source: Wikimedia), as of 2026-10. Summed across 23 tracked sites/companies with a matched Wikipedia article. Pageviews measure public interest, not visits to these sites, and are shown here only as context — not as evidence about access-law effects.

“First seen” is the date our measurement first recorded this verdict. Baseline means it was already in place when tracking began, so the true onset may be earlier; observedmeans we watched the site change to it. Verdicts are detected structurally (a named age-verification vendor, an explicit withdrawal notice, or an HTTP 451) — a site merely refusing our IP is never counted as a wall. Data as of 2026-10-08.
